Backup & Recovery
Protect your data with regular backups.
Automatic Backups
PrivStack creates automatic local backups:
- Frequency: Daily
- Retention: Last 7 days
- Location: Your PrivStack data folder
Manual Backup
Create a backup anytime:
- Go to Settings > Backup
- Click Create Backup
- Choose location to save the backup file
Backup Contents
A backup includes all data from every active plugin in your workspace, along with settings and preferences.
Backups are encrypted with your master password.
Restoring from Backup
- Go to Settings > Backup
- Click Restore from Backup
- Select your backup file
- Enter your master password
- Choose: Replace all or Merge
Export Options
Full Export (Encrypted)
Export everything as an encrypted backup file. Requires password to restore.
Plain Export (Unencrypted)
Export data from individual plugins in standard formats. Each plugin defines its own supported export formats — see the plugin’s documentation for details.
Warning: Plain exports are not encrypted. Handle with care.
Disaster Recovery
If you lose access to all devices:
- Install PrivStack on a new device
- Restore from backup file, OR
- Connect to cloud sync (if enabled)
- Enter your master password
Best Practices
- Keep multiple backups — Local + external drive + cloud
- Test restores — Verify backups actually work
- Secure your password — Write it down and store safely
- Enable cloud sync — Acts as an off-site backup
